Software for Seniors

For my Grade 8 science fair project I am planning on building a Linux based computer for seniors.

I need some help picking out software and so thought I would ask the ever supportive Ubuntu Community

I need to pick out the following pieces of software

Audio/Video player (iTunes Replacement) E-Mail client Browser Photo Viewer Desktop Environment

The criteria are:

Software must be

-Able to have large, simple icons -Have minimal buttons, options, and clutter -Simple to figure out -Straight Forward -Basic -Accessible

Someone who has never touched a computer should be able to use the software

E-Mail client Browser Photo Viewer Desktop Environment Ubuntu comes with Audio/Video player (Rhythmbox/Movie player), an email client (Evolution), Browser (Firefox), and Photo Viewer (F-Spot Photo Viewer.) As mentioned above the desktop evironment is GNOME.

Have you downloaded and installed Ubuntu? If not, then to it and ask any questions that you have.

I was just wondering if there were any replacement pieces of software that might be more senior friendly.

BTW I'm typing this from Ubuntu right now, it's my main OS

I'm a senior, and have had all the installs since Breezy Badger - 5 years I think. I have only had one difficult problem, and that was my awful wireless card. (I now run my laptop wired.) I think Ubuntu is easy to install and manage, and would recommend it as it is to all seniors.:KS
