Hi there,

Back in the dark ol' days when I used Microsoft XP and Word, there were these really cool Macros brought out by Rick Meyer for e-Sword. Basically, you got four buttons in Word that allowed you to search, find, or drop in text from e-Sword, right into your Word doc.

There were UBER-handy! I was just wondering if anybody had thought of making them for Open Office, since most of us now use that, I presume.

Just a suggestion... any ideas?

The two major stumbling blocks are:

  • The OOo API for extensions has a very steep learning curve;
  • A User created macro would only be able to read user created e-Sword resources. I have no idea if Rick would be willing to allow distirbution of an OOo macro that could utilize official e-Sword resources;

The best bet is to install MS Word through wine using the same wineprefix of e-Sword.

I might send a message to Rick, and see if he'd be willing to make a Macro for Open Office - he's made different ones for each different edition of Word, so he might not mind doing another one.

If we get it for Open Office, he'll most likely do it for Windows - do you reckon it'll be smart enough to find the actual stuff through Wine? (I know you probably can't know that, of course, but you guys have probably used Wine more than me, and know it's abilities to pull off things like this...)

Then, just run windows version of OO through wine in the same wineprefix of e-Sword. It should work.
