Computer's For Christ, Question on Christian Edition

Hi fellow Ubuntu Geeks ;)

I'm honestly new to Ubuntu but I think I might convert my other computer to this OS soon. I'm currently working with a friend to rebuild computers and send them to Pakistan as a missions opportunity to bring people to Christ while helping the people with computers.

To be brutally honest I have never used a Linux based OS and never really gone outside the windows OS empire. I'm liking open source stuff so much though I'm thinking of using it on my own computer.

A friend of mine got a copy of Ubuntu Christian Edition and it seems to work okay...many of the apps don't worth with this edition it looks like. But my big question is does anyone have any suggestions about using Ubuntu Christian Edition for the computers we send to Pakistan? I understand it's discontinued so does anyone know if there is a big reason for this? would we be better to go with a more up-to-date version?

It looks great so far, I just installed it on the first upgraded computer and I'm loving it.

You might want to repost this thread in the 3rd Party Projects ----> Ubuntu Christian Edition forum.

Ubuntu Christian Edition has been restarted with Jaunty 9.04 Christian Edition.

If its discontinued, then by the time it gets to Pakistan, there wil be hardly any updates (if any), and any exploit will not get patched. I think you are better off sending regular ubuntu, you can still feel good about it because your giving. And you will do the rest of the world a service by not sending a bunch of mailserver capable unpatched PC's to a near third world country where people "got to eat".

the question was: should i (the op) use christian edition, or a more updated version of ubuntu?

so this makes the new question (In my opinion) what is the advantage of using ubuntu christian edition?

it is not by any means what religious value dose a bible on the spash screen give, it is perfectly legal for an orgaisation to give out technolegy to packistan, and there are forums for discussing this, and there are an equal number of people who belive this is just some gimmick to get people to come in to a religious group, that is not a comment that is allowed here.

Though we may not tend to agree with OP its best if we keep our opinions just that, kept. If he wants to send PC's to Pakistan, he's as free as any man to do so. The day he is not, I pray someone tries to help me as he is the pakistani's.

Most of Pakistan is Muslim there are alot of similarities to Christianity.

just to make sure you know ubuntu me is ubuntu muslim edition, that is a little of topic, but could affect the outcome of this thread/get it closed (example: so a muslim is living for christ...) then you would end up getting this thread closed, you made a risky move starting this thread, I will get an admin if neccecary, I have seen how this type of thread gose. also ubuntu ce = ubuntu christian edition, it is right next in the list to me, so that is the reason I am commenting on the whole muslim thing)

Hurtful, prejudiced, intolerant and pushy. Four words that describe what the OP is trying to do. As for the post I quoted take solace in the fact that normal Ubuntu gives you freedom whereas Ubuntu CE seems to take away some of those freedoms.

Squarely on-topic I would seriously consider the wisdom of sending the Christian edition to a largely Muslim country

Edit: As the poster above me has brought to my attention there is a Muslim edition would seem a wiser idea but I still like the idea of letting the end-user choose. Or are you too scared they won't choose CE?

Personally, if you are installing for somebody else, I strongly suggest you use a standard edition.

There is nothing wrong with your personal beliefs, but unless somebody is requesting Ubuntu CE, why use it ?

How would you feel if the roles were reversed and somebody sent you the ME ?

@others : Ubuntu CE, as with ME and Satanic Edition are all official, so please provide support without the (Religious) judgment.
