Hola I would like to know about any Christian organization that uses Ubuntu. Specially Christian organizations that use it in the mission field. I want to set up a plan to use Ubuntu in our community and it would be great to use other ministries as examples.
We already installed Ubuntu in one church and they love it !

well considering that ubuntu is distributed thru free laptops around the world than i think its used in alot of churches. I know that i use only ubuntu on my laptop and desktop and im the "computer guy" for my church and i will be running our site off of ubuntu so....it probably is used in ministries now as far as an example i couldnt tell ya!!
I am not a church but I am a part of the church and I use it :D Working on hosting a site right from my own box here my self. Just unsure as to what format am I wanting.

To be honest Ubuntu is not lacking anything. We just want to teach the kids how to use a computer at the church, and I think Ubuntu is the best option. (not just because I use it)
I can use Ubuntu Christian Edition and Edubuntu or both at the same time.
This has always been my question too. I too would like to know if there are any organizations or churches using CE for administration and daily tasks. Gabo CR, where is the church that you have already installed it on? It would be nice to contact them and get some feedback. Do they have a website or contact info?
Our Christian school uses a mix of windows XP and ubuntu. The only reason we still use windows is that the older versions of Alpha Omega Publishing's Switched on Schoolhouse don't work in wine. Supposedly, the new versions do work, but we aren't ready to spend more money on upgrading just yet.
I am working on getting UCE spread around the community for many Christian families that are concerned about identity theft and child safety on the net. Being that I am in the heart of the bible belt this will prob take off fairly soon to have almost everyone around here using it. Mind you I am not a church going person like many of my friends but I do see their concerns and my heart goes out to them.
We have Ubuntu on an old athlon XP in our soundesk to record the sermons, and the pastors computer runs Ubuntu, the secretaries computer however still runs XP as the accounting package used wouldn't run under wine.
Would changing to GnuCash be too much of a hassle for the church? This is really just a curiosity more than anything. I'm curious if you would be able to transfer the books from whatever the church is using via XP to the GnuCash.
TBH I don't actually know what the church is using at the moment, I'm sort of the back ground advice, the Pastor has complained that he has problems with word documents, just that difference between OO and MS office. I could look into it, maybe just find out the name and look into it I suppose. Proprietary formats huh? No questions about why Stallman hates them
I'm an audio guy. We have a prayerroom where we webstream IHOP's (international House of Prayer, not the pancake house) feed in. Our problem is that we use wine to get esword to run. We also use it to get an program called mp3directcut to run. That's fine but wine does something with the computers audio. We are wishing to use it solely, but until I can fix this little glitch, we are dual booting. If I could work some of the glitches out....I know I could win our church community over. It's been a rough road winning people over to to just openoffice. but I think we won.

It might be related to pulseaudio. You could try to use alsa for example, and see if that help.

We installed Ubuntu in Calvary Managua and it works just fine. The church is also running Ubuntu Server. But now I want to use it in Costa Rica.

If you want to use e-sword on Linux, you need WINE, or other Windows emulation software. No ifs, ands, or buts.
There is a version for Ubuntu, it is called GnomeSword.
GnomeSword and e-Sword are two very different programs, that have radically different goals and design philosophies.
About the only thing they have in common is that they are for studying the Bible.

I'm very happy to hear that the church is proceeding well with Ubuntu! Are you using Ubuntu CE or "regular" Ubuntu? Just curious. And is the the church in Nicaragua?
I guess I confused the Sword Project with e-sword. :confused: I always used e-sword, but as soon as I moved to Ubuntu, I started using GnomeSword. I never get so into it, like to find out about their radical differences.
I just like studying the Bible. :)
