I tried to connect to one of my school's wireless networks today using my Mini 10v. It showed up with WPA encryption in the networking tab. However, when talking to the "techies", they told me that I'm supposed to authenticate via both my username and password. I assume that this means I need to use 802.1x.

If by school you mean university / college it is more than likely a peap/tkip protocol. I have to use wicd to access the network at my school. I am not certain if it will run with moblin, though you can give it look see. it is in the ubuntu repos.
Well, it's one of the department's in my college. Most of my school uses a browser based authentication system, but the art and design department decided to block anyone not taking a class in the department so they instituted their own authentication scheme.
