I'm a bit confused about the optimization for the Atom processors in moblin/UNR. I'm currently running the standard release of 9.10 on my HP mini 5101, and I'm happy with it. Is there a serious performance advantage to installing moblin/UNR besides power management? And if so, is it possible for me to set up the same optimization in the standard release?

I had UMR (running gnome - so pretty much UNR) beta until the other day when I upgraded to release version Karmic Desktop. I'm sorely disappointed (and quite surprised)- I wasn't expecting such a speed difference. I'll be going over to UNR (running gnome) to make the most of the optimisation.

Ok, I'll switch over then and see for myself, I'll run some benchmarks before and after. I wish this was better documented.

I am a bit confused by your tbh. You say you were running UMR (moblin) but have upgraded to karmic desktop. Do you mean standard ubuntu? Also confused by what you say about the speed difference, was there one and if so which was faster?
I have 9.04 netbook remix on an aao and was disappointed with the battery life. From what I read it seemed that netbook remix was just standard ubuntu with a different interface and didn't actually have any optimisation. I was hoping that moblin might be better for battery life etc.
