Everything is so happening so fast. New forum and an open repo already?

It took Karmic two weeks to open and days more for the Karmic forum to open.

I like this faster pace.

With the exception of the toolchain uploads and automated Debian imports, it's safe to assume that not much is going to "happen" until a week or so after UDS, though.

Yes, though it does make me very hungry for updates. :)

6 month cycle is not long & wasting 2 weeks makes it a 5 1/2 month cycle so sooner the better as far as i'm concerned.

I figured things were happening faster to keep the momentum going. Karmic turned out nice and Mark Shuttleworth said the LTS wouldn't suck. :D (Meant as a humorous remark.)

Seriously though, the LTS is a very important release and is primarily targeted for businesses. Ubuntu is pushing for the enterprise with a total solution and I think they are going to make things happen with this release.

Karmic contains the elements for success in the enterprise and I believe refinements are going to happen in the LTS. The Software Center's development is a key component and I bet it will see many refinements in Ubuntu 10.04. Properly developed, the Software Center opens the door for third party application development. Yes, there is nothing wrong with selling software and keep in mind this could influence gaming development for Linux as well as business apps.

The 9.10 release provides a faster boot with a better experience. I think this will be tweaked and fine tuned in the LTS. I test a lot of different distributions and Ubuntu is currently one of the fastest booting systems there is and application response time is quick with a good memory footprint.

Cannonicle is pushing to be profitable and competitive. I think Ubuntu 10.04 is going to make the enterprise level happen and things are really going to keep moving in this development cycle.

I'm going to see how Lucid desktop performs on my Acer Aspire One compared to Jaunty and Karmic. Karmic has a few nice touches, but showed a lot of regression in important places like mobile broadband performance and boot time. So I'm going to be waiting out Karmic and looking to the future.

Here's also hoping that desktop continues to support Atom-based netbooks so I won't have to switch to something that makes my laptop behave like an overpriced Palm Pilot.

But they should keep the Karmic dev. forum open a little while longer there are many useful bug related discussions that were alive.

I have been pointing anyone that is having problems to the (closed) forum--I agree that it "should" have been left open this time, maybe changed to a reference forum & sticky on all the others--would have stopped lots of questions.....Could we do this mods?

Another reason for starting this now is to get us nuts back in the lab rat cage.

Hang in there--We need to see from the UDS where things are going this time...I'm on the Gnome-Shell list & doing bug work there--I'm betting that it will be a uneventful ride this time due to the LTS.....I'm also betting that "Mitey Mouse-10.10" will be a wild ride indeed......

With 10.04 I'll do a fresh install, 10.10 though, I don't know :) that cycle might be crazy....

I REALLY hope for a "Mr Toad's Wild Ride" come 10.10--the releases have been a bit tame of late--look at my thoughts in the poll for a "rolling release" ala Debian....I think that is what we really need to do for quality & feature advance work....

I believe that Lenny is still using 2.6.26. No ext4 support at all. Nice stable, solid, boring OS. I am dropping it in favor of PhatDebian and Sid.

A=starting point (Stoner Edition 1.0) B=middle (StonerKink1.0) C=StonedLizard1.0 All up to date and tunes to listen to. Now I need to screw with the menu background and xsplash, etc.

You also need to update your Ubuntu version!

I am not on there right now, but, if you look at the third image, in the terminal, you will see;

Ubuntu lucid (development branch)

This is true. I do use Hardy. And 9.10 and 10.04 and9.04 along with a number of others.

The Hardy over there in the info box has been there since I joined the forums as it was my only OS at the time and is still my "main" OS.

I actually use it very little as it is boring. We do an business on it that requires security, though, still.

It is due to be replaced sometime next year, around the time 10.04 is released.

I thought seriously in the last testing cycle of just putting "Ubuntu lab rat" in the OS spot.
