Can We get Fedora's new tooltips?

I'd guess that we'll get them with the next version of GTK; I'd be surprised if Fedora didn't push this upstream.

the patches have already been filed upstream by mclasen, but arrived a little to make 2.18. they will be in the next release, though, as soon as they’ll be reviewed and discussed.

As a general rule, unlike Ubuntu, Fedora does all it's work upstream. No feature will be worked that is not also actively intended for merging from day one and in fact most features are worked on directly in upstream.

Expect to see this in Lucid.

Expect to see this in Lucid. Why is it like that? For instance, why upstream didn't pick up notify osd, while they are replicating this work with gnome-shell?

On another note, is there any non-ubuntu based distro that's using notify-osd/ plan to use xsplash?

Foresight ships notify-osd and plans to use plymouth.

The only reason I can think of for not looking into notify-osd would be the copyright assignment to canonical under unsuitable terms made it problematic. Aside that there might very well have been technical issues. There might also be a hope that in the future the major notification systems can move towards a common API so one could drop this into multiple environments.
