Sometimes they're safe. Better advice is don't just blindly do a partial upgrade. Do a little homework to find out why a partial upgrade warning is being displayed, then you can make an educated decision reagrding whether or not to proceed.

That's not good advice.

If you're using Update Manager as the only tool for updating packages, that will lead to packages that are *meant to be* replaced being held back indefinitely, and will lead to an installation where you have old packages lingering around until the end of the cycle, potentially causing unintended behavior.

And I am, right now, running a dist-upgrade in apt.

I ain't scared.

Just about a thousand and a half packages (9.04 to 9.10). Then I can do it again to this OS and have a Stoner Lizard Edition1.0.

You have to live a little and have FUN with this stuff.

I have uninstalled update mangler in this install because it irritates me. The other Lounge is Kinky upgraded with UM on it.
