Hmm I might be in over my head!

I am tryng to install a ubuntu 9.10 lamp and samba server. I really need to learn this command line stuff. it would surely help. Any one know of a good reference?

I just hope Im not biting off more then I can chew. :D I thought I had it installed but I got an error 17 after reboot. Who knows. Maybe Im not suppose to run both off the same hardware.

Ubuntu.com provides great documentation for many aspects of using Ubuntu Linux. In your case, I suggest starting with the terminal guide, and the server guide.

I suspect your hardware is fine. My own personal server is an old PIII 667Mhz machine with only 192 megs of ram. It runs Ubuntu Server 9.10 with a LAMP installation, NFS server, SSH server, and Samba. It is responsive enough for my modest needs. (web development)
