I have an Eee PC model 1000HE it came with XP. A friend installed Mandreva but I wanted Ubuntu. I have since loaded Ubuntu 8.10 but the WiFi does not work. I would be grateful if some one would inform me which version works best with my PC. Ideally I would like to leave XP; uninstall Mandreva and Ubuntu and reinstall a version of Ubuntu that will be compatible with the ASUS. I must add there is absolutely nothing wrong with Mandreva but because of my lack of knowledge I want Ubuntu all the more.

If you are in a hurry, you can go ahead and install Ubuntu 9.10 it is the current stable version. The next release 10.04 is due on 29 April though. You could wait for that. It will be the most stable of all the stable releases for the next 2 years.

If you do decide to install version 9.10, the update manager will let you know when the next release is ready. To upgrade, you will only need to choose to do so and follow the prompts.

Just install 10.04 and you'll need to familiarize yourself with ndiswrapper if it doesn't work out of the box.
