Hey guys,

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 of a friend's computer. I am having two problems, one of which belongs in another category. The problem I am havingwith Firefox, however, it that the text is not showing up on pages. I tried various fixes (turning off page styles reveals texts, but messes up pictures and alignment), but to no avail. I don't know if this is related, but as a temporary fix I installed Google Chrome, but it cannot display any page I punch into the address bar. I've messed with fonts in the system and in Firefox with no perceivable change, excepting turning off the page styles. I don't have a clue. Thanks in advance.

are you using the mozilla build of firefox as installed from the ubuntuzilla repositories, or are you using the stock firefox that came with ubuntu from the ubuntu repositories?

Just out of interest go to FF->Edit-> Preferences- Content tab and play around with the fonts option -Advanced, there. I seem to remember I had a problem once before like you describe and changing the options there and then going back again got everything running properly. I presume it was a profile corruption of some sort which was overcome by the change, and then change back worked OK.
