so ... we have to wait 6 month till then... happy posting
I only have 4 versions so far. The 5th one has to wait so I can copy it to another drive yet.
It is the clean install from the 10.04 final-test ISO.
Plymouth even almost works on it. As long as I have "splash" removed from the menu entry it boots very nicely. Boots at around 30 seconds, usually less but never under 25 seconds yet.
Shuts down better than the upgrades too. Only takes about 1.25 minutes.

umm...guys, after you update with modified sources.list, can you open 'Software Sources'? or 'Repository' in Synaptic Package Manger?
I remember you have to modify some other files...

As always, I'm here for the learning and fun. The Software Sources thing has been an issue for a couple of years now with every 'new' development in the beginning. :lolflag: Just have to use 'gksudo gedit' to get at at sources list.

lols..yup.. just have to manually edit it.
btw: just gotta love chrome's fastestchrome extension..don't have to click on next page no more, just keep scrolling.

You should be running 10.10 by now. I am not sure how long the repo has been open as I waited until yesterday to upgrade but the bugger is working fine.
On this install I am using the Canadian archive but on the rest I am using the US archive. They both were fine.
You may want to check your mirror.
If you are close to as dumb as I am you may also want to check your sources list. Maybe you didn't save it (this is something I am good at forgetting to do).

I know, but I won't have much internet access over the summer so I'm hoping to see something changed before I go back to the dark ages...
Things should start hoping as soon as the UDS is over. New kernel and so forth at the least.

That is why I am glad I have a nice large test drive. I have 3 pretty much similar installs that I can switch between if I screw one. This way I can feel comfortable running it as my production OS during the day when I can keep an eye on it.
I switch to my main internal drive and run 9.04 at night. I don't need to watch it and that way I can have boinc running pretty much all the time.
Boinc on your testing OS is great. You can keep your cpu(s) cranked out at 99-100% all the time. If anything is going to break it sure will with that much stress on the system.

Now I just have to hope python doesn't go all weird on me like the middle of lucid pre-alpha.
I'm getting there, but everything had stuff back to 32-10, so I'm trying to clean this mess up. It's ain't funny when you need to scroll foooorrrrrever, to get to the stable install, which I guess I should reinstall too. Wow, I guess I never paid attention to the default theme, it's different, I think I'll leave it at that. I'll have this mess cleaned up before any real fun starts. What a cluster I have here!!!
Do you guys just have your sources set to Main? Thats how mine currently is.

I'm back. Looking forward to more fun. If I'm honest, Lucid development was a bit too stable for me. Even the plymouth / nvidia stuf was more irritant than show-stopper.

Same crap.
Not surprising as we are on the same kernel and using the same libplymouth2.
I am hoping that they give up on this dog early enough on to just replace it and backport it to 10.04.
My clean install shuts down slow but it is under a minute. The boot up works pretty well in the upper 20s. That is all default plymouth setup.
No wonder there are so many threads in the ABT and General Help forums from folks with upgrades (and a couple clean installs) about the shut down failure.

My cat /etc/lsb-release still shows lucid. I have changed distribution in software sources to maverick. Also did update-manager -d but nothing came up.
Did you run;
apt-get update
and
apt-get dist-upgrade
?

Thanks. I changed the dist name from software sources which did not replace all the lucid with maverick. I manually did it, it worked. Thanks.
This is my first time posting on Ubuntu Forums and English is not my native language so I apologize if this sounds noobish but I've been using Ubuntu since Gutsy. My question is, does simply changing the repo name from lucid to maverick and updating cause an upgrade to the development version or is there more to it than that? Because when I do that it causes nothing to change even though it does update packages.
You have to reload the repositories once you change from lucid to maverick, you are not advised to use the update manager at all during the testing phase, either update using the terminal or synaptic, as using the update-manager is just going to cause many problems.
I would advise you to read the partial upgrade sticky at the top of the page. Another bit of advice, at the moment maverick is still basically Lucid with a newer kernel, but new packages are coming every day, these could cause breakage, so check here before doing updates to see if there are any big problems that may affect you.
