Hello,

I had some issues with my browser and ran across an 'ayisu' post about installing from Ubuntuzilla.

...so I updated my sources list, backed up my profiles, and installed the Mozilla builds of T-Bird and FF. T-bird wanted to do an update yesterday by itself, so I looked at the Advanced settings and turned off 'check for updates'. Also did this in FF.

The ubuntuzilla wiki should instruct users to turn these off, since I have seen some posts where people are updating that way and failing (permissions issue, then using sudo, or gksu to accomplish the update. These individual sw "check for updates" options are disabled in normal Ubuntu sw installs.

Also, today, I got my updates from apt when I did an uptate, upgrade so all is good, however, where can I see the files in the repository?

At the sourceforge site they are behind one version, but the apt repo is obviously up to date as my updated versions match the latest versions from Mozilla.

Why? Sometimes I like checking the repo site to see changelogs and such and see what versions are there.

Cheers, brook

look in symantic and if you use Ubuntuzilla

you will see you have two firefox and 2 t birds one called firefox or thunderbuild

and one called firefox-moxilla build and same for t bird

firefox=ubuntu firefox-mozilla build = the good guys (ubuntuzilla)

so no need to disable as all it does is keep the ubuntu version updated when you see it from ubuntu

pretty sure i am right? ;-D

yes lately ubuntu is getting better on updates, but they do forget about t-bird at times and no guarantee just because the last 2 times they got it out that it will stay that way.

ubuntuzilla gets them out fast as fast as a few hours ( i did the update last night. but within 2 days so far ( over a year or so)

about all the updates come from the repositories so if you had it checked "check for updates to firefox" it would tell you there is a new one out but you would get it from the ubuntu repositories and not going and letting mozilla do it just like all the other software

Thanks for that. So I checked Synaptic and I have both versions of T-Bird and FF installed. So, do most folks using Ubuntzilla uninstall the Ubuntu versions? What did you do? Hmmm, decisions, decisions? Now to find an easy video editing sw for my son.

it doessn't take much space to keep the ubuntu version and gives youone more option if you have trouble

you can (by the info on ubuntuzilla's site) have a way to bring back the ubuntu version and remove the ubuntuzilla version

i started using ubuntuzilla right after they started it, got tired of waiting a week or two for the latest version ( and the many security and bug fixes) but that is just me ;-D
