Please! Oh Please! Bring the world map back!

Hi.

Since Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, the world clock map is gone in the clock area.

I know I have a world clock, but before they were showing on the map, we had weather as well as where the different cities were located and an idea of if it was night time or not.

For people who move a lot, and work with other people half way around the globe, it's a sensible addition to check if my phone call will wake them up in the middle of the night or at their office!

I have a brother in Australia, Family in Mauritius, friends in the countries where I worked (half of Asia and Europe) and I'm moving to the US soon.

I know I'm not the only one in this situation. It would be a good addition for people needing it regularly.

...Its still there I think. Granted I might have an off kilter version of Natty (the Classic Desktop didn't work right for me, so I modded it a bit)...but Gnome panel still has the little "Locations" bit you can view the clock with etc.

Hi, The new clock still supports the multiple clock however the 'daylight map' is gone. To add the clock, you can simply click on the Clock on the task bar. Click on 'Time & Date Settings...' found at the bottom. You should see a pop up come, click on 'Clock' tab. Find 'Choose Locations...' button and click on it. Now you can add other cities. By doing this you will see the cities listed when you click on the Clock widget on the task bar.

I still miss the Daylight map... as you guys said, its nice to see know if they still have daylight etc.. hope this helps.

Ubuntu Classic still has the world map with daytime/nighttime utility.

Yes I know Ubuntu Classis has it but this is about Oneiric and Oneiric won't have Ubuntu Classic, AND! I want to use Unity which I like very much. I want to make a push for it. It's a nice feature and it should stay! I will make a blue print!

Please note that Oneiric Ozelot still does have Ubuntu Classic session just like Natty did.

That is perhaps the case, at least that is discussed in UDS right now. However, Oneiric has not evolved that far yet, thus resembling more Natty now.

anyway switching to classic is not the solution for me. I want to use Unity. I like it. I like the way it looks. I like its lenses. Just need to get the map to unity.

I would agree. I would not say that I used the map much but I did miss it in the couple of hours that I tried unity. Whilst it may be a feature that isn't really critical it really was a nice addition and something impressive for first time users.

11.10 is supposed to be a bugfix/feature upgrade (as opposed to a 'big change' release) and as was pointed out in UDS, it is all about making Unity shine

So I would expect those small features to come back

I don't think we'll see it back in that menu; there isn't really much space to fit it without becoming insurmountably massive. I would *love* to see someone borrow the same awesome code for drawing a world map and apply it towards a standalone meeting planner / time zone helper :)

well, i don’t care so much about the world map (although i liked it) but what’s really missing is the temperature indicator.

Indicator-weather, will give you what you want, its in the repositories.

I join to the claim for the world map to came back. I know I have the time, but it was more... visual and nice. Besides the clock tells the time, not if its dark, sunset or what.

And by the way the weather indicator do is nice.

I was very disappointed that my fresh install of 11.04 was missing world map and weather indicators, but also wondering why my other installation, that I've been upgrading since about 9.10 still had the old clock.

So what I did was the following: -remove the default "Indicator applet complete", which includes all indicators, the clock and the session buttons.

• from left to right add following indicators: "Indicator applet", "Clock" & "Indicator applet session"

Now it looks exactly the same as before, but with the good ole clock applet.

And while you are at it, if you've been missing some icons in your panel, e.g. skype, guake etc. I also recommend adding the "notification area" panel.

I also went back to the old clock because I'm a mod for and mmo, and many of the other staff members there are in other countries, and I can never tell when and when not to Skype them. Daylight map back on mine, I'm happy :P

You can add other locations to the current clock. See screenshot. You should be able to tell whether it is day or night by the time display. :)

This just one of the many issues that prevented me to upgrade from 10.10 for months! I was hoping these glitches would be fixed by now.

Why did M$ (Mark Shuttleworth) decide that I want a netbook desktop for my 1920x1200 screen? The upgrade messed up so many things! I can't believe it!

They only seem to care for their business, aka just-another-social/network/cloud/service/etc. The whole Linux idea is going to be trashed by the profit for these corporations!
