Why when you remove Firefox with Synaptic Package Manager automatically installs Chromium web browser without any instruction for that?

Hello, jhl69.

Why when you remove Firefox with Synaptic Package Manager automatically installs Chromium web browser without any instruction for that?A few more details may be needed in order to be able to give a valid answer to your question:

*(Have not seen the reported behaviour so far, neither on Karmic Koala (v9.10), nor on Lucid Lynx (v10.04), both 32-bit. So I wonder which version you may be using.)*

*(If so, Synaptic may simply revert to the pre-Firefox state after uninstalling Firefox.)*

  • Which Ubuntu version exactly are you using?
  • Had Chromium been installed and configured as the system's default browser before Firefox was installed?
  • The Firefox version which you uninstalled had it been downloaded from the **Ubuntuzilla repository**?

Kind regards, Karl

It can be a meta package whatever ubuntu version are you using which suggests either Firefox or Chromium to be installed on your system. But anyway, after marking Firefox for removal the package manager should automatically mark Chromium to install, simply search for Chromium, uncheck it and hit apply.
