The future of ccsm (for PP, or PP+1)

When using Compiz, it's hard to imagine working with "default" settings. Enabling / Disabling features and adjusting the plugins behaviors via ccsm is almost mandatory. Some other important settings, like OpenGL, number of desktops, etc are also inside ccsm.

But it doesn't seem like ccsm is being changed to adhere to the desktop defaults in anyway. And if compiz is mandatory for running the unity desktop, it may create confusion to have both a "settings" interface (mouse, shortcuts, background, etc) and also a compiz settings program.

Do you think they'll move ccsm settings to other interface? To the settings window maybe? In PP? PP+1?

What would be good if an app for just the Unity plugin was available - perhaps in a default installation. It would allow newcomers to fine-tune their Unity settings without being tempted to break the desktop with things like the cube. The launcher icon size is one thing people should be able to change easily, imo. I'm sure the default size 48 is responsible for a lot of the "Fisher-Price" Unity hate we see posted. I have the launcher set to 34 on my 24" desktop monitor, laptop and netbook and this works well for me on all three.

isn't it so that Ubuntu Tweak is going to take care of the most obvious settings of compiz? Some settings were available, and I believe something good is being created in that direction. Also the (easily) editing of quicklists will be available I read somewhere..

I was looking at which plugins are used by default in a standard Unity setup, right after a install. I guess this would be the "basics" (to achieve the Unity experience they envision).

-OpenGL -Composite -General Settings -Unity -Fading Windows -Expo -Desktop Wall -Window Decoration -Move Window -Resize Window

ccsm could be an alternative download if the default interface could deal with the settings of these plugins. But it's a lot of settings to me moved into settings interface.

A request in 11.04 for a unity settings tool was turned down - still hasn't appeared though 12.04 would seem a good release to put something in. (The continued existence of the "Experimental" tab is interesting..

Other than that can't see anything else likely other than maybe # of desktops. It would also be nice if the option to disable grid was available, I'm sure some find it annoying.

A not included by default that could be useful, particularly if refined, would be scale addons & text, just the text overlay part for the window spread
