I haven't given 12.04 a go yet. Are there any notable improvements or changes at all? I understand that it's very early in the cycle, but I'm not sure if it's worth bothering with right now.
If not, I'll probably just hold off until the second alpha.

The question was whether or not any notable changes have been brought in yet (under the hood, Unity, etc). I don't want to waste a download for something that's essentially just 11.10.
I downloaded the precise-desktop-i386.iso.zsync and it booted correctly but waiting for the amd64 to reinstall my precise install.

What's changed?
For what it's worth (not much) I took a 20111012 Oneiric i386 iso, simply changed the file name to precise-desktop-i386.iso, and am running a zsync. Zsync thought that 60% of the files were the same and 40% were changed. Now the change could be as simple as changing names from oneiric to precise.
I usually figure out the changes are really hitting when it boots to black screen, or won't install, or install screws up grub, or ...
Let the games begin...

Bill I see all platforms are now being updated daily. Time to reinstall my precise-desktop-amd64 and let the testing begin.

That's what this forum is for.
I get a bug, black screen whatever, report it, then look on the forum for anyone else with similar problems and share possible workarounds.

Yesterday's .iso booted O.K. That means there's not much new buggy code in it yet.
Maybe if it is intended as a LTS there won't be upheavals like on Narwhal.
Anyone know of any blockbusters coming? I didn't get much out of planet ubuntu or some of the announcement stuff, except that Mark Shuttleworth (who pays the bills) is really really enamored with Unity-3D. I wonder if there is any marketplace penetration data - only thing I saw on planet ubuntu was not favorable, but was based on weak data.
There are plenty of alternatives available - I just find myself testing what ubuntu development throws over the wall.

Jerry You are just not trying hard enough. :smile: I found one when I tried to install and I picked other the edit partition dialog box is quite trashed. I did file a bug report and hope it will be resolved soon. This was on a 64 bit install and am in the process of trying the 32 bit install.

Yeah, "early unstable development" ubuntu installs borked everything on multiboot hard drives for me three times over the years. Recovering Windoze....7 was a real bear, not as bad as recovering XP with multiple telephone calls to India.
So I wait for people like you to report that installs have a chance.
First install I try is to a USB hard drive. That's even messy at times. I might find some reportable bugs tho.
Why keep Microsoft around? So when I pass the pc on it's got Windoze on it for a possible future use it.

p.s. For some reason even in late development "install" as in "ubiquity" as well as "grub2" seem to have persistent bugs. Must not be areas ubuntu development is interested in.
