Application for Ubuntu Membership: Ms. Daisy

I would like to apply for Ubuntu membership through Ubuntu Forum Contributions. I came to the forums 6 months ago for help with my new Ubuntu installation. I have stuck around because I've grown very fond of the community and the people I have gotten to know.

I certainly endorse this application. Though the argument most people will present against it will be that you haven't been here long enough. Oh I said it...What? At least now it's out in the open.

That being said, I also know that you've gone a long way to supporting the community in what I feel is an often overlooked, and undersold subject. My personal evangelical podium...Security.

You're one of the few contributors to this forum (though this number is increasing) that accepts that Ubuntu can be compromised, and promotes positive security practices for new users curious about security. You've even gone so far as to proliferate the information you've learned in several wikis.

This is where Ms. Daisy really shines in my opinion. Other forum members will not see this but Ms. Daisy hunts down unanswered posts and dead threads posted by new members. Then uses the "Report abuse" button to alert the staff and suggest a more appropriate section of the forums to place them in. Often the thread will come alive and the OP will get the help they need.

Creation and continuing maintenance of high quality threads that inform, support, draw attention to useful resources, share useful ideas, and/or enable easier involvement in the wider Ubuntu community

The time thing was a factor for a few of us, but i think that Ms Daisy has proven her sustained contributions and consistency over her time here on the forums, great job rallying everyone around to work on the Wiki and always contributing and ready to help and learn.

You have taken a big interest in Ubuntu and the forums since you joined. You have edited Wiki pages and you are helping out where you can. That will only get greater as your knowledge increases.

I hope the fact that you are new here does not influence a decision too much and even if it does then keep applying. I think you are the type of person this community needs.

If you follow the links to the standard member wiki - that says

While there is no precise period that we look for, it is rare for applications to be accepted from people contributing for less than 6 months

All that said I make it almost 6 months now - you're contributions are noticed by many.

Ms Daisy is very dedicated and works extremely hard in the Security subforum. Her posts are very well reasoned and not condescending and show a remarkable insight into security as a whole. Her help in the Wikis is very much appreciated also.

I also want to add that I'm impressed that she never falls into the trap of suggesting posters are paranoid but calmly gets on with answering serious questions.

It means a lot to me to have all of your +1s, but I have to single out Dangertux and haqking. They have been my mentors of sorts and I value their opinions. They've taught me so much about Ubuntu & security I couldn't begin to repay them. Thank you for the support in this thread and in everything as well.

If Ms. Daisy is really a Ms., I think that's really a plus #1. Yes that sounds like a sexist statement, however I really like getting the other gender's input on issues. There are far too few females in the forum, so I think her contributions are admirable.

I congratulate Ms. Daisy in getting involved in the Wiki process. I should have become involved in this process years ago, but never found the time or probably the motivation. Her ability to translate and re-write very important posts to the wiki is extremely valuable -- far too many members, including myself, don't do this type of work.

This may seem counterintuitive, but what many may not understand is that it is not only Ms. Daisy's helpful answers that are valuable, but also her thoughtful *questions. *In allowing others to help her in that regard, she contributes to the resources others may benefit from.

Ms. Daisy provides a "human" touch to what is otherwise an anonymous forum peopled with some old farts like me who are often too abrupt and, uh, "direct"(?)
