Unfortunately Openoctave doesn't look like it's going to make it.. It's inspired by Christianity, so maybe the campaign should be promoted in some Christian web communities?! If anyone can think of a way, don't hesitate to just act and spread the word.

H-E-double-hockey-sticks NO! I am a follower of Jesus and I know first hand that using any form of mass-media to alert Christians to helpful new technologies (in this century) is the fastest way to get it sidelined by naysayers. Also donating to such efforts is the fastest way to get the worst kind of 'please support our cause' spam. Having a televangelist call it "the devil's work" is far more effective way to get publicity. The best way to publicize this to Christians is to demo it to a church leader who will be using it. Jesus made us fishers of men. Sadly, many of us prefer to use a pole rather than casting a net. Thanks for posting it here, I'll be donating (anonymously).

The openoctave campaign is also over and was unsuccessful, but since it's indieGogo, they at least get some of the money. I really do hope they'll reach their development goals. I am no musician and don't know if there are already similar mature FOSS projects available, but it seems to me that this kind of software can be extremely beneficial to the FOSS ecosystem, just like Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, Audacity, etc.

Add more mipmap levels to LoHalo (to be renamed NoHalo) and tweak their use to make resampling more accurate for very large downsampling ratios, and make the computation faster for moderate ratios. This machinery will be reused with the new samplers. Lohalo currently uses two mipmap (a.k.a. pyramid) levels:

Fix the RaGaBaA (alpha-multiplied light) sampler data buffering system so that the GIMP hack which consists of allocating a buffer storing it is not needed any more, making computation both faster and less resource hungry.

It has been pointed out by other GEGL developers that I should document the performance improvements with benchmarks. I don't want to spend too much time on this (“I sponsored additional functionality and all I got is this lousy benchmark.”) so I'll keep this simple, but I'm adding it to the total. (Will split the loot if I get help on this.)

Fidus Writer Word processing still happens largely through desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, LibreOffice or Open Office. Google Docs is a great online alternative, but it's not open source, and documents are saved on outside servers, which can be a security issue.

Fidus Writer has been developed for a year and already has many of the same qualities as Google Docs -- the ability to share documents, to create Epub or HTML output, comments, powerful math/formula formatting and individual pages, Fidus Writer is also the only online tool designed for WYSIWYG collaboration on LaTeX format. Version 1.0 has been released and is functional.

Its not mentioned on the ORCA webpage https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Orca , nor the mailing list.The names on the indiegogo do not seem to be associated with the ORCA project. It does not state how the money will be spent, are they programmers? are they going to hire programmers? Also its flexible funding, so they get the payments immediately even if goals are not met. (This is not to say ORCA itself is not an important project)

ReactOS works with the WINE project to share as much programming effort as possible. ReactOS depends on Wine mainly for user mode DLLs. Where appropriate, patches to Wine are also submitted by the development team, and patch contributors are often directed to Wine if it is felt that the patches would benefit them.

Let's have some updates: ReactOS has $12.5k of $50k Novena laptop has $169k of $250k Embroidermodder 2 didn't make its goal! Loomio exceeded its goal by $24k Freetype still needs about $18k Pitivi has raised half. The Mediagoblin campaign finished and they unlocked their $60k goal. GIMP symmetry painting finally got over its goal, but the development will start in June. Blender's Gooseberry extended its campaign time and modified the target, so they only need 5000 subscribers for the deadline.

Yeah I edited my post to reflect this fact. I've posted about Tupí before in this thread.

The Krita team is also hoping to fund an OSX port (although that stretch goal will not likely be met). With these cross-platform apps, the funding targets are kind of enmeshed. To quote a Krita kickstarter update:

It's also likely 2.9 will have portable installers for Windows and Linux and the experimental app bundle for OSX. That is, the work on OSX has made it possible to create selfcontained packages for Windows and Linux that do not need post-install setup things to run anymore.

So working on the OSX port has benefited Linux as well.

In the end you'll still be funding the development of a Linux animation application, if you participate in the Tupí campaign.
