In this thread, say how many window managers you have installed on your computer. Desktop environments like KDE and GNOME count as well as small window managers like Fluxbox and Blackbox.

Gnome Classic backed up with terminal, nothing else is needed :)
I would like to try different DE/WM but I am afraid it might just clutter my system and make it more resource intensive. KDE will install a hack of dependencies. Do you guys think installing too many DE/WM might increase CPU/Memory usage?

no because it only allows you to boot into one at a time. Only problem is hard drive space it takes up for all of them

also there is the Cairo-Dock session.
There are certainly bits pulled in from gnome/GTK3 libraries for some apps when i have no choice, but no Gnome sessions.
Just Kwin (KDE) for me. At one point I had multiple installed, but I don't like having all the dependencies cluttering my system, and I've settled on KDE as my favorite.
I only have Blackbox because it takes up almost no memory, so I use it when I run very resource intensive tasks such as gaming. However, it is almost impossible to use on a daily basis because it is so fiddly, so I use JWM or sometimes unity for everyday use, but Unity takes up a HUGE amount of memory, so I use JWM most of the time.
(by the way, I'm not bashing unity, or I wouldn't have it installed!)
Unity is working fine for me, I'm on Ubuntu 13.04 alpha. Thinking of switching to KDE 4.10 though, Nautilus and its missing features (backspace doesn't navigate to previous directory anymore?!) are seriously irritating!

I removed Unity as I am on GMA500 netbook.
Just one, XFCE. I find it easy to configure, and sufficiently lightweight, informative and attractive.
My only complaint would also apply to most other WMs: I would prefer to be able to do everything through the keyboard, and not have to use the mouse unless I want to.

I mainly use fluxbox, its nice and lightweight, occasionaly KDE/Cario for when I want cool effects and I don't use Unity anymore and Gnome3 is a train wreck

I pretty much only use Lxde and JWM on this computer, though... I was hoping to use components of Unity 2D in JWM or openbox... but it is all too firmly knit together.

How could you not use unity? What did you do to install classic gnome? Change to run level 3? I've always liked to execute the .profile when I go into run level 1, because a run level 1 situation is an emergency panic situation, but a bit of ``` fortune -o
Installed only one: Unity but compiled many and my favorite is: i3 (http://i3wm.org/screenshots/#/screenshots/i3-1.png) and for some systems we use CDE: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdesktopenv/

I quite like Blackbox (I know it it prehistoric), because it is light, fast, and does everything that I want it to. If I need to run a QT/KDE Gnome/GTK application, I just install the libraries and run it!
at one stage I used to run a lot, xfce, kde, gnome2, lxde, awesome plus a few others but these days I just run unity and am happy with it
For the moment, I've got Xfce on my desktop at home, and both that and KDE on my laptop for on-location use. Once I install 13.04, I'll probably replace Xfce with Unity, and update my KDE. If I don't like Unity, I can always go back to it.
