No. AskUbuntu is one official help channel. Ubuntuforums is another.
askubuntu is just a qa system
Ubuntu Forums is just that and that is why people can ask the same question again and again and we try to give help even if it means giving the same advice that we gave to someone else a day earlier.
Askubuntu has different rules. You are not supposed to ask a question that has been already answered. And answers should be up to encyclopedia standard complete with illustrations. Pointing someone in the right direction (possibly) by posting a link to documentation is considered a sub-standard way of helping someone.
I can see a point to a site such as Askubuntu. If it is used right but I just do not have the time, energy or knowledge to give a text book answer. So, Here I stay.

Blame the package maintainer. I don't feel like digging thru launchpad to find the reasons for not wanting to include the forums in the slideshow, but you can probably find it if you search for it. :p
Probably has something to do with recommends 32 bit :P

Yeah, that was a pretty big disappointment to me. We've been here putting in our time since the very first release, but it seems like we're treated like the redheaded stepchild. I don't mind if they showcase Ask Ubuntu, but they should put in a plug for us, too.
I think the forums were already hujely popular (at times, even to the point of being unusable), and askubuntu needed some help, when it was incuded in the slideshow. Let's not be jelous now, shall we.

I wonder if someone asked the "Community Manager" for the reason and if the answer is in the public domain. "Oversight" may have worked the first time ;)

Well *I* appreciate all your (plural) guru time and effort. I have learned a lot from you (plural). And I appreciate the high caliber of help and patience in this community.
It makes sense to not overwhelm new users with too many choices in the first few minutes (Forums, IRC, Launchpad, Wiki, Planet, LoCos, Hangouts, Mailing Lists, Blogs, etc. ). They will find it when they need it, or when they are ready for it.
I can understand recommending AskUbuntu. Many new-user questions are similar, and they need to learn to start looking up answers for themselves.
One of the (several) things I like about Ask Ubuntu is that I, *as a regular member*, have the ability to fix incredibly stupid or inappropriate titles such as this one to make them less "trolly" or more appropriate. When I had posted about that here, I wasn't particularly impressed by the responses of several very senior people including those who signed the Code of Conduct. In the meta section of Ask Ubuntu (or other Stack Exchange sites) such questions are dealt with in a more useful manner.

I don't know of any forums that give *regular members* mod rights. I don't think anyone can change post titles except the OP and mods/admins. *shrugs*

We don't want to put too much on the screen, but it's a good idea to pack the screen full with tweets. It just sounds like a big convoluted load of horse dung to try and make it sound like there is a great, profound reason to not put the forums on there. Plus, he totally dissed the forums and painted it out to be way too confusing for new people. New people have been doing just fine getting help here for way longer than AskUbuntu has been around. He mentions the main ubuntu.com/support page is shown, but doesn't mention that Ubuntu Forums isn't shown anywhere on that page. You have to click on a small obscure link toward the bottom to get to another page that has a small section that mentions the forum. It's almost like they're ashamed of us.
Kudos to Jono Bacon for being the first to call him out on his BS. There's no reason they can't both be on there.
There's ask There are the forums (which should definitelly be included). then there is also the ubuntu manual and excelent IRC support. if irc maybe really is a bit more geeky, the manual is not.
Mint has done it nicely with that help screen that appears the first time.

Good luck. I'm not going to pursue anything because it wouldn't do any good. But that doesn't mean I like their decision. Even though I don't like it, it's not something I'm constantly stewing about. :)
One argument is that they didn't want to have too many things on the screen for people to have to memorize. Personally, I don't look at it as people having to memorize the forum's web address, but rather, just letting them know it's here. People know how to use Google, but if they don't know something even exists, they won't know to Google it. They sure aren't going to easily find the forums through ubuntu.com. It's not that big of a deal or stressful thing to just let people know the forums exist. They don't even have to give the URL, if they don't want to.
Q/A Site =/= Forum.
In case anyone missed it, the bug report to get the forums listed on the Meet Ubuntu page got solved quickly. We're on there now. That gives me a slight amount of hope that maybe they'll change their minds about the installer.
