Guidelines re requests for support with eol versions?

I've been wondering if there are any recommendations for responding to posters who are running outdated versions, unless there is a very specific reason for it, which may be temporary anyway. E.g. updating the system before upgrading.

I seem to be running into it, particularly with 10.04 users. I am tempted to simply say, as nicely as possible, "you need to upgrade", especially if the reason is that they don't like the new desktop. (They have choices in that area, don't they???)

So, do any of you other, more experienced, posters have any guidelines, ideas, recommendations on how to deal with this?

If it's EoL, it is unsupported here, outside of maybe telling them that the repos moved to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/

Best thing for them to do is upgrade to a supported version as running unsupported software is just asking for trouble.

+1 to what CharlesA said, I've flat out told a couple of posters that if a release hits EOL, that there won't be any support either from Ubuntu, or the Forum. I'd liken it to those that are still using Windows 2000, they know they won't get any kind of official support, but there are enough resources on the internet, that they really shouldn't need to ask for support on a forum.

Thanks, guys. That's more or less what I was thinking, but wanted to be sure. I did report one thread where my annoyance levels were rising and I was afraid of going off-CoC, and three staff weighed in. I think the don't-want-to-upgrade posters got the point!
