Cinnamon: how to disable workspaces?

I'm using Ubuntu-based Linux Mint 15 (64 bit) with Gnome-based Cinnamon desktop.

Have a problem: after screen saver activated, all open applications I worked with disappeared. After long hunting for where they could go, found Windows Switcher at the right corner on bottom panel, there they are as "Workspace 1". But I can't reactivate them, make them visible at once: each time I have to go to Windows Switcher in Panel to select application I'm working with, to switch to another - go there again and select another. It was not so before, this is the first time it happened.

I can remove applet Windows Switcher, but this removes access to all open applications. There is no option in Settings to reduce number of workspaces to 1, as it was long time ago. I disabled all possible options in Settings> Workspaces, nothing changed.

I'm not proficient enough to work from Terminal, so can anything be done to solve this problem by using settings?

On Cinnamon you disable workspaces by removing them all via the overview (each one has a close button), then going into Cinnamon settings and disabling the hot corner altogether in the Hot Corners settings. I've just tried myself that on Mint 16 and it works. :)

Where is overview located? I can't find it. Hot Corners and Workspaces (in Settings) were disabled long time ago. Maybe some glitch and I need clean install...

By default, Cinnamon uses two workspaces. If you have disabled the Hot Corner, ctrl-alt-up-arrow will display them.

Cinnamon does not create workspaces automatically. You will use only a single workspace as long as you do not deliberately move to another workspace.

Open and minimized windows in a workspace are displayed as small rectangles in the panel if the "Windows List" applet is installed. (Right click on the panel and select "Add to panel...".) The icon at the far right of the panel that you used is the "Window Quick List" which pops up a list of all open windows in all workspaces.

If you add the "Windows List" applet and it does not appear immediately, log out and back in. You can relocate the applet by turning on Panel Edit Mode (right click on panel) and dragging the applet.

"Cinnamon does not create workspaces automatically" But it did, after my open applications disappeared, I opened Firefox again to find what happened. It appeared in Workplace Switcher as Workplace 2. Maybe it was a glitch. My only deliberate move was being distracted and leaving computer for some time, and starting browser again after first instance vanished.

I didn't face this problem again, although I didn't give the system a chance yet (no work was left unattended and the time before screen saver starts was increased).
