Hi,
I've recently bought an Asus UX301LA, and after a bit of trouble with UEFI, I managed to install Ubuntu 13.10 on it, getting rid of Windows 8 in the process.
Everything worked fine out of the box, except for the battery.
I don't know if it was charging when I was running Windows, as it was plugged most of the time at that point. I don't know if it ever charged while it was on Ubuntu either, all I know is that it doesn't charge anymore, and hasn't done so for the past 4 days. It doesn't charge when I'm running Ubuntu, it doesn't charge when the laptop is turned off, and it doesn't charge when I'm in the BIOS.
It isn't discharging when plugged in either, I've only lost 2% of charge in those 4 days, part of those caused by numerous tries to get the battery to charge by plugging/unplugging. The Laptop is working perfectly fine unplugged, by the way, so the battery is detected, and somewhat working. So I'm stuck at around 60% capacity as it is now.
When I used upower to get info on the battery, while plugged in, I got the following as a result:
native-path: BAT0 vendor: ASUSTeK
model: UX301-4
power supply: yes

energy-rate: 6,87 W
voltage: 11,1 V
time to full: 2,7 hours
percentage: 60%
capacity: 93,9031%
technology: lithium-ion
So the battery status according to upower is "charging", even though it isn't charging at all.
As for what upower has to tell me about the AC, here it is:
native-path: AC0 power supply: yes
updated: mer 25 déc 2013 14:29:51 CET (1798 seconds ago)
has history: no
has statistics: no
line-power
online: yes
ACPI, on the other hand gave me the following:
Battery 0: Unknown, 60%
So contrary to upower, ACPI seems to know something isn't exactly working properly, but it's still not telling me what.
I am aware that it might be a circuitry issue, in which case I'd have no choice but to send it back to Asus, and quite frankly, this forum is not far from being my last hope to avoid doing so.
I hope you guys will be able to help me.
Cordially,
Lepaffe Philippe.
