Moderator Nomination and Voting

One of the reasons for allowing users of the forum to gain Ubuntu Membership from their contributions here was to "gain the privilege of voting for members of the Forums Council".

While we have not got there yet - we have been working hard to put in place a system for the Ubuntu Forums Members team to take part in a system to bring in new moderators.

You will now be able to nominate people for inclusion in the moderation team, and once nominations are in, vote on the nominees. Much the same as other areas of the community are able to vote for people.

We will shortly be calling for nominations for the first run of this new system.

So the nominee requirements have me a bit puzzled.

Be an Ubuntu Member by way of Forum contributions or an Ubuntu Member who is active on the forum.

So in order to become a moderator you don't have to be a Ubuntu Member first?

For me this is a bit hard to follow.

• A thread will be created in the Forum Members private forum area, outlining the numbers of new nominees that the Forum Council would like to see filled.
• Nomination period is open for 14 days from Forum Council call for nominees.
• Forum Council chooses from the nominee pool sufficient numbers to fill vacant positions.
• Private vote set up using Launchpad for active members of Current moderation team , Former Staff and Forum Ubuntu Members. NB. It is the reponsibility of each eligible voting member to ensure that their Launchpad email address is current and valid.
• Vote runs for 14 days.
• Forum Council contacts successful nominees.
• Forum Council reserves the right to deny appointment to the moderation team.
• Forum Council announces vote outcome in Forum Member area.
• Forum Council announces new moderation team members in general forum.

Will this allow for UF members to discuss the outcome and possibly allow for changes to be made? How long does the council wait before they post to the general forum?

So in order to become a moderator you don't have to be a Ubuntu Member first?Yes you do, mostly. In order - Forum Ubuntu Member then Ubuntu Member (though if someone is an Ubuntu Member they have to be active on the forum) - however, see Note 4 of the Nomination section.

Forum Council can nominate candidates for positions on the moderation team who are not currently Ubuntu Members...So if Bert isn't a Forum Ubuntu Member - but the FC would, if he applied, give membership to him - then the FC, and _only the FC_, can nominate someone who is not a member.

Once the nominations are in and the poll is out then that's it.

There is a subtle difference between what the vote gave and who actually ends up as being moderators. Bert might have been on the poll, he might even have come in first - but then he might change his mind.

So you in here will see what the outcome of the vote is - you will have voted on it, but that's the vote. What will be released to the general forum is who the actual new moderators are.
