Hello, I'd like to assign a shortcut for the quit dialog (suspend, restart, cancel, shutdown) in the main menu of linux mint 17. I'd like to trigger the quit dialog by pressing Alt + F4 when I'm focused on desktop, like on windows...

I am running Linux Mint MATE 14, so your desktop environment may be different. In MATE, Alt-F4 is assigned to close the current window and Control-Alt-Del (the Windows 3-finger salute) brings up the logout/suspend/shutdown dialog box. You can reassign these functions in mintMenu (Preferences==>Keyboard Shortcuts).
You can also assign a direct action such as Alt-F4 could be assigned to *pm-suspend*.
It's not really possible to answer that without knowing which mint DE you're using.
