Just some screenies (v 0.27-1) and a question, how do I populate "Places"? It looks quite empty as it is now.

#2

i think you just have to open many files...i think it's like the recently used or something...

but question..how did you make your panel/menu like that?

#3

just drag them from menus, panel, or nautilus

Just as Mattisking said... pin the menu (small toggle button top-left) and drag items onto the places or applications ;-)

#5

Got it, thanks. I tried that first, not realizing some Nautilus icons are not draggable.

Hmm, I'm not sure exactly what you mean... to rearrange things you:

 1. right-click an object (e.g. the trashcan) and deselect "lock to panel"
 2. right-click the object again and select "move"
 3. move it around (you can even move objects between different panels) and left-click when you're happy
 4. right-click and select "lock to panel"

Besides some rearranging, I decreased the height of the panel somewhat, added USP, removed the standard menus and decreased the number of virtual desktops from 4 to 2. Oh, and of course, I removed the bottom panel completely after putting some of its stuff in the top panel instead.

Hope that explains things.

In the upcoming version, when you don't have places yet, it will automatically add 4 places for you by default (home, desktop, computer, network servers)

Sounds excellent, thanks _profox!

you're welcome, of course you can also just add places yourself..

if you already have places and you want the 4 default places instead in the next release, remove all places and then remove the applet and add it back...

Oh and, BTW... gconf is the first thing I open now after installing the latest USP... always curious to see what's new in there. Was looking for the transparency stuff to try, I know I saw it earlier today either here or on Compiz.net could you add that to the Howto?

How did you change the text colour?

I can change the background and headers but not the text.

#18

The text color was set by GTK theme (Clearlooks-Dark)

ah I see - thanks.

I don't really want to change the colour system wide, just in USP - post made in things I'd like to see thread :)

I can't come up with words to express how cool usp is chanders. You've done a fantastic job on this. I only found it last night, and I've spent the last 12 hours doing nothing but playing with it.

So here's my shot: []("http://ubuntuforums.org/gallery/data/2/blk_072906.png")
