ubuntu phone ringtone

Just wondering if anyone can help. Have got a new ubuntu phone( which is excellent by the way). Cant seem to find a way to use anything other than the provided ringtones, have always set mp3's on android phones and would be nice to do it on ubuntu.

Did try that. but keep getting permission denied when i cp the file across?

Yes, you must change the permissions of the directory. In the links above is the way. Be careful root ;)

i tried again this morning after a restart and it worked perfectly.

A suggestion for the future: Maybe it would be possible to allow the phone to look in a specific subdirectory in the user's space (e.g. sounds/ringtones). C.f. the OpenMoko Freerunner with it's Debian-based default OS that allows any sound file to be used.

Just wondering if we are going to get easy UI to change the ringtone? Bq stock ones are fine, but I would like to have my own ones. I would also like to keep my phone as normal as possible. Yes, I do know that to change ringtones is explained and this process do not break anything else. I would still like to have this option as easy as possible.

Bq is great phone! Works really well in my use.

So if I root my phone, would I be able to install OTA updates? Why is such a common task so complicated? When I used Android, I had installed Zedge and changed ringtones as and when I wanted. If Canonical are serious about penetrating the mobile market, they need to work around these difficulties!

I would really appreciate an app that allows you to use any sound file to be used as a notification or ringtone.
