Ubuntu Phone updated April 17, battery dead five hours later

I am just wondering if something went wrong for me or if this has something to do with the update I installed last night. The update is said to give improvements to battery life. I installed it at 11 PM yesterday with around 80% of battery life left. Got up around 6 AM and the phone was dead. Once the battery had enough power to start the phone (BQ Aquaris) I looked at the battery graph in "System settings". It went from circa 80% at 11 PM to 0 in about 5 hours, killing the phone around 4 AM.

Now I am just looking to see if someone else experienced the same thing or if I am just "lucky".

Since this is my first smartphone I was a bit worried about battery life, being use to charging about once a week or so. Up until this morning I have been please with getting around two days of use between charges (give or take maybe a quarter day or so). From there to six or seven hours seems a little rough ... ;)

You have something that I do not have - a Ubuntu phone. But trying to look at this logically, I would say that something is using up power. What could it be? Does the screen power down? Is the device still connected to WiFi or the mobile service? What are the things that would drain the power out of a mobile phone? What are the techniques that a user can do to reduce battery power drain?

I am just trying to promote some thinking on this matter.

The lastest ubuntu phone update improves battery consumption very much. It's my experience with BQ Aquaris and the widespread opinion. Something has not gone well in the update or there are something is consuming too much. Look GPS and localization... maybe too scopes open...

Probably some process for some reason kept the cpu busy for a bit too long.

After charging it it seems to be fine. Maybe a little too fine maybe since it has been at 51% for about 8 hours or so. If that holds it has indeed improved in the consumption area. (Must admit I am a bit worried - from complete depletion to no consuming any power in less than 48 hours.) As for the first run after the update, I am glad no one else seems to have had the same experience and I agree with you that it probably was some process that did not exit as it was supposed to or something like that.
