Hi Anyone know when 15.04 is going to get released to the phone? I read this https://insights.ubuntu.com/2015/04/21/ubuntu-15-04-desktop-phone-and-iot-towards-a-converged-future/

Anyways my phone is still 14.10 (r21) and doesnt detect anymore updates.

It is hard to find information about the phone in general. Let's hope they deliver as stated: [I] The latest 15.04 updates will be delivered OTA (over-the-air) in coming weeks meeting Canonical’s commitment to the mobile as an extension of Ubuntu on the desktop and cloud: a secure platform that is always up-to-date. From the 5th to the 7th May there is an online summit. We will be getting information then.

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1505/meeting/22476/snappy-phone/

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1505/meeting/22479/phone-user-feedback-session/

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1505/meeting/22481/ubuntu-client-qa-desktop-and-phone/

Those are some of the sessions relating to the Ubuntu phone. There are some others relating to planning for specific phone apps.

We are all invited to register and attend and get involved.

Ubuntu development is being re-aligned and not just for the phone.

Regards.

I hope it will be soon. The phone is just sitting in its box waiting to become usable. Too many functions missing to replace my current phone.

some few things that bug me (and are deal breakers): *Ubuntu team's Calendar app isn't good (recurring events every other week doesn't exist) *USB/Bluetooth tethering doesn't exist (travel with laptop and sharing internet becomes impossible) *Files over 2GB (video) cannot be transferred to memory card *Poor compability with Ubuntu Desktop in general (random errors when connecting USB)

I was as Benno-007 visitor of the online summit and read the mailing list. Official in 2-3 weeks soonest but I think it could take longer, too. But 15.04, 15.10 won't come soon because of snappy testing. If you are experienced and don't need some main scopes (and apps like here maps) you can flash it yourself and at your own risk with ubuntu-device-flash, for example like this:

ubuntu-device-flash -v touch --channel=ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed

And back to the old stable release:

ubuntu-device-flash -v touch --channel=ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09

In this form this would normally not destroy all your data which is on a separate data partition. But you have to make backups or maybe you risk your data because of errors or problems.

If you don't know how to do all this in detail maybe you are not experienced enough and be carefull what you are doing or not. It's only a hint for some a little bit experienced people because it doesn't take long that this is official and stable without flashing on your own. I don't want to recommend it because maybe you want the stable version with all scopes, don't to damage your device for some reason and so on.

Greetings, lgd

I think I wait....or sell it if 15.04 doesn't improve it so I can use it. If I pissed off enough I probably just give it away for free I just can't believe that BQ och Canonical makes a phone that lacks so many basic features. Where the hell have they been using as a phone for themselves all this time? a Nokia 1610 from the 90's? I dont expect it to beat my iPhone 5s clean off the start, but some basics just gotta be there....good calendar app, usb tethering, integration with desktop os and so on .

Tethering works with terminal and data sharing after configuring the usb id. Wifi Hotspot is ready in development but maybe not public yet. More infos on askubuntu and search engines for the moment.

You can always ship it to me in the US! :-) I am gladly willing to take it off your hands.

Is there a way to install android on it and ditch Ubuntu? The same model can be ordered with Android from BQ so that's why I wonder

#10

No roadmap for Ubuntu phone? Are they skipping 15.04 for the phones?

#11

No, they try it until the end of may the mailing list said.

I've wondered the same thing. You can download the BQ Aquaris 4.5 firmware from the BQ site (Support -> Downloads http://www.bq.com/gb/support/aquaris-e4-5) which I'm assuming is the Android install. Sadly I don't know enough about it to know how to get that onto the phone.

I'm a little like you - a bit disappointed with the Ubuntu Phone. Fingers crossed things will improve!

May be the article Ubuntu Touch to Be Officially Based on Ubuntu 15.04 Starting with OTA-4 will be of interest.

It looks like there could be an update very soon.

#14

Still no 15.04 update :-(

Tomorrow I am giving it away if I can find anyone around that wants it (or I just park it in its box on some trashcan somewhere). This is the worst device I have bought I think.

#15

Don't give it away before you've read https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg13243.html.

It looks like both a release and an official announcement are imminent.

#16

And now it's released - Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 released.

This update has not fixed any of my problems. Still no WiFi hotspot No Weather Channel data in Today scope. Weather Channel app doesn't work Car bluetooth signal and battery level not supported. Application updates install but don't go away.

These bugs were logged months ago and still nothing has been done

#18

Just updated. Honestly, there is nothing to write home about. Disappointing.

I got the aquaris 5 HD a few days ago. Upgraded to 15.04. Works as a charm. Phone, messaging, wheater info, gmail and yahoo mail, calendar etc. Wi-fi or 3g works as well. Haven't tested the bluetooth, as for the hotsopt never needed it before. It was bit lagging in response, but after upgrade to 15.04 it got very snappy. I for one am very pleased with the phone.
