I'm a novice when it comes to the big deal stuff when performing custom Ubuntu installs. Mainly, it's a boot-from-disk-and-click-install type of thing for me.
I have an Acer Iconia Tab W500 which is running a dual boot of Win 7 Pro and Ubuntu 15.04 Desktop, both being fresh installs in 32-Bit. Specs are: AMD C-60 Processor, 2 GB RAM, SanDisk U100 32GB SSD.
While I usually work with and on the desktop installs, it leaves much to be desired for in a tablet environment. I'm currently venturing to see if I can get Ubuntu touch to install in lieu of the desktop version.
What I have done so far:
- Downloaded the PC (Intel x86) preinstalled touch image.
- This is a .tar.gz package, so I have it extracted to its own directory.
- I have used genisoimage to create an .iso from the extracted files.
- I burned the .iso to a DVD to try to boot from with no luck (basically, I made a coaster).
What I was hoping to get is the accelerometer to work for the auto rotate along with multi-touch for things like pinch to zoom/expand/shrink as well as the having a keyboard pop up when a text box was tapped and the ability to scroll without having to grab the scroll bar.
So the question is: am I going along the right path or should I scrap the idea and try a different route? Thanks in advance!
