Welcome aboard guys.
Just one thing, not everyone has a sweet tooth, so don't forget to bring something else other than donuts.

Welcome aboard guys.
Just one thing, not everyone has a sweet tooth, so don't forget to bring something else other than donuts.
Congrats folks! :P
Welcome to both of you.
slickymaster, I agree, I'm currently on my weekend, so adult beverages would be muchly appreciated. :)
Welcome to the [s]madhouse[/s] team.
Congratulations!
Now for wondering what on earth you've got yourselves into. :)
Welcome ajgreeny and PaulW2U.
I'm happy to share the moderating tasks with both of you.
Woohoo! Welcome to the team. :-)
Welcome. In case you haven't been told, we're having our first staff meeting soon. See here. Add yourself and convenient times.
Also, installing userscripts is a must. Howefield bumped the thread for you, but here is a direct link to the scripts in case you missed it. They will save you some time doing chores. You need to install Greasemonkey in Firefox or Tampermonkey (I believe) in Chrome or Chromium, then install the scripts.
Any questions, shout out. :)

Oh indeed.
Mind you I've been walking on air ever since receiving howefield's invitation on Monday evening. I didn't get to sleep till about 4 and I get up at 530 and go to work at 645.

Thanks for the heads-up Bucky Ball.
So much to do, so much to learn, so many to thank and I still have to work on that newsletter that sammiev likes reading each week :p
Thanks all. May be I should now just give up the day job.

Haha. We have a staff policy: the real world _always_ takes priority. If you need to disappear for awhile, for whatever reason, there is a staff 'Absences' thread. Just post there.
Don't let it burn you out, cos it can. We'll all be here when you get back. :)

Wait! What? You have a day job?
Won't have time for that whilst fossicking for doughnuts in the Ubuntu doughnut plantation!
"Fossicking" One of my favorite Australian expressions!
And another Welcome to ajgreeny and PaulW2U.
Welcome to both of you again! glad you are among us.:)
Welcome both :)
I'm having great fun here too, but as PaulW2U says, there is so much new stuff to learn and in my case IRC chat to figure out (I think I've managed that now) as it was something I'd never used before.
Can I just add my thanks to all who have guided me through all the questions I have had so far, and add thanks in advance for answers to all the questions I have yet to throw at you.
Can I also ask about greasemonkey mentioned above by Bucky-Ball, which on the FF add-ons page is slammed for causing terrible slow-downs and memory leaks. Any comments from anyone?
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this final question, but I note that anywhere in the forum when I click on links that should go to my profile, I get my own profile on the left of the screen as expected, but all of what appears to be other user's Activities in the Activity tab, mainly for bapoumba. That can't be correct, surely?
Re profile : that is your "friends" activity. Looks like I'm your friend ajgreeny :)
Ah! I see what you mean. I now see all my own activity is on the "ajgreeny" to the right of "All"
You see, I told you I was new at a lot of this and still very much on the upwards learning curve, even though that was nothing to do with becoming a mod.
As far as greasemonkey and memory leaks, it seems more the fault of the scripts than greasemonkey. I mean reading the reviews, the first guy posts/boasts running 3 ad blocker scripts... I typically run the scripts in chrome, but haven't noticed slowdown with firefox w/greasemonkey. Chrome is bloated anyway, but firefox has been fairly consistent in terms of memory usage, with or without the monkey.
No problem with Firefox here.
Thanks for those comments. I was going to install it in any case; it can always be removed if necessary, should it cause problems, and I have a backup of my FF profile to use if needed.
Never had an issue with speed or anything else with Greasemonkey in Firefox. I am only using the forum userscripts, though. They have saved me a ton of time. :)
