Ubuntu System Panel Mockups

I think both projects: Ubuntu Control Center and Ubuntu System Panel are great so I had an idea of mixing what I consider the best of each one to suggest a new Ubuntu System Panel. Considering that you just select one option at a time I think that avoiding to have all the options shown together we can save some space. Hope you like it

I voted for the current USP. I like how you can have multiple panels open at once, and yet it remains fairly compact. You mockups are a bit big for my taste. They do look great though, maybe someone could write them as plugins. I'm sure that a setting could be made (if it hasn't been already) to only show one pane at a time.

I like USP the way it is...

I prefer the current USP too. (and it's less work for me/us, hehe) But USP will get alot better theming support and once the plugin system is in, I think we should move "places" and "applications" and "settings" to separate plugins :) that you can edit/change

Hi guys: I voted for the mockups because are very simple and they focuse in the principal part and you don't have to see all the items together. I like it. Nice work. ;)

Well, I prefer mockups...easy.

No offence but if the USP developers decided to go with those mockups I'd be going back to the Slab menu!

Answering to augied, I can make the mockups more compact, could be 20% or maybe more (if people is interested) the main idea was to depict a one panel menu. Actually there can be a couple of improvements too. I think is not only matter of size but usability, when I made them I also had in mind the people that uses Ubuntu for the first time. The mockups, for me, are easier to understand since the first time.

Although I love the way USP is, I wouldn't mind having alternatives

Well, I don't like them. profoX doesn't like them and nobody else likes them.

HOWEVER, I think that their may be somethings we can borrow from it. (EX. We should have a places browser because currently it is a pain to add places to the menu, Downloads could be a good feature, maybe built in UCC integration would be good) However, I much prefer the current design. I think we should get working on a plugin and theming engine. (which I think is what chanders is working on)

Seems to me like the vote are adding up ;) Well guys, have no fear, the new plugion system will be able to do all of that and more..

The only problem is we will need people to write plugins! So start learning Python with PyGTK! Its really easy and even the smallest program can be turned into a plugin ;)

Can you recommend a site for total beginners to learn Python? (I've got Python and IDLE installed)

Thanks for the plugin options guys, I'm gonna close this poll soon... but I'll open another one :p , yeah, it's true but just to see people's reaction to some improvements I did to the mockups, hope to get a better result :)
