When I first became a mod someone said to me "Don't forget, you were selected because of what you already do on the forums." So keep on doing it! (As well as the doughnuts and latrine duty, that is. :))
The main difference is when you notice something amiss on your travels you can do something about it instead of simply reporting and hoping the rabble behind the scenes gets to it eventually! :D

What a pity there is no new staff member with a name that is alphabetically earlier than mine; they might have taken a few of the PMs I get from forum users who want to find information that way instead of using the forum properly.
