This all arose from a pm conversation MAFoElffen and I had about the placing of a sticky or stickies for the system-info script. For the record, that is being worked on and a new sticky should appear in New to Ubuntu and in the Hardware sub-forum in due course.

The conversation highlighted a few problems with stickies, namely that there are too many of them, that many are out of date, and that a sizeable proportion of forum users don’t notice them. We can do something about the first two. The latter we can’t, except repeatedly pointing those needing help and who need the information in a sticky to the appropriate sticky. It’s the first two we need help with and I’m posting here in the hope that some or all of you can help.

Please have a look at the stickies in the various sub-forums. Are there any that can be safely unstuck and left to sink out of sight? Are there any that need revision? Can you help with any rewrites?

At the moment, the only old sticky being worked on is undecim’s Suggestions on how to get your support questions answered as quickly as possible New to Ubuntu sticky which I’m attempting to bring up to date with MAFoElffen’s much-appreciated help.

So – comments, suggestions, and answers to questions I didn’t think to pose will be gratefully received. If anyone would like to update an old sticky, we have several ways of getting around the permissions problem with a closed thread so that it can be edited.

There’s only one rule: no sticky is sancrosanct.

We may widen this conversation to the forum as a whole, but I thought that appealing to Ubuntu Members (via forums contributions) first is a good start.
