[FONT=Lucida Sans Unicode]i'm using the dvd. i get to the point of partitioning my drive, and it locks up.

basically, i had the same problem when i tried to install dapper.

strange? do hp's just suck? any ideas? [/FONT]

But really though? I don't know why you would be having any problems with the partitioning. Seems very strange. Good luck... I hope you get some answers.

I hope you get some answers. upon closer inspection, i realised that the disc is damaged. so, that could explain why it "froze." i dunno. i think im going to retry ubuntu anyway.

I had a problem with a Promise fastrak raid card (not being used as raid) where the partitioner would format the drives on the card EXTREMELY SLOWLY, so maybe that is the issue for you as well. IIRC, it took like 3 hours for it to finish, and before it was done, it appeared locked up. So let it go overnight or something.
