i downloaded both iso's from their ftp. one is ~850mb. *just *large enough to exceed the capacity of a standard cd-r(w). and as you know, a dvd is over four times that capacity. (the other iso is just over a gig)

is there a way that i can put both of them on one dvd to avoid wasting a disc ?

I don't know what you downloaded but the FreeBSD ISOs do fit onto cd. ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/6.1/ ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/amd64/ISO-IMAGES/6.1/

What exactly did you download, link ?

Use wxdownloadfast or aria2. Can get them on that getdeb site for ubuntu.
