Yes, I am in the 'cuse. New here on the forums and kinda new to Ubuntu. Are you a member of SYLUG by chance - lots of Ubuntu folks there.
Wow. That went well.
I live near Syracuse and I'm always looking for people using Ubuntu
I'm in Cazenovia
I am here as well.
Haven't been on the forums here in a while, but should be able to get back to form now :)
Howdy! -Mike
There recently was a Syracuse meetup by the Ubuntu NYLoCO group - sadly I couldn't attend. Are there plans for more meetings soon? What was the outcome of the meeting?
greetings from Eastwood!
Skaneateles,
A little outside Syracuse but Definitely Active :)
The Last Syracuse meeting was in March and I believe the next is scheduled for May. I was wondering if there are any plans for a "install fest" for the new LTS release?
I'm from Jordan. I'd love to meet up with fellow Linux users.

Hi everybody --- I'm a Ubuntu-user in Auburn, just west of Syracuse! I've got to admit I don't know what LoCo means (so I hope I'm not treading somewhere I shouldn't be!!) I'm not a programmer, just a plain old home computer user who's been using Ubuntu for about 6 mos after my Windows XP went nuts. When I couldn't afford to buy a new Windows OS, a friend installed Ubuntu 7.10 and once I got used to the differences I like it. I liked it so much that I figured out how to download and install Hardy Heron 8.04 all by myself. I'm kinda proud because it went pretty smooth and is running nicely. I have only two questions for anyone who can offer advice. 1.) In 7.10 I used the deskbar applet to run a lot of searches because it featured multiple search engines. But in 8.04, my applet only has Yahoo. How do you install additional search engines like Google, Ask, etc? Is it at all possible or easy to do for a regular user? 2.) I like the screensavers that came with 8.04, but was wondering if it's possible or difficult to install additional screensavers to what's already here? I've tried asking these two questions in some other forums but haven't gotten any answers yet, hoping some of you in this room might know.

LoCo stands for Local Community
1) Ubuntu 8.04 includes the latest version of the Deskbar Applet, can no longer do Google searches because Google no longer offers the API (interface provided by a software/service like Google Search for a 3rd-party program) that Deskbar Applet can use (SOAP Search API). See http://code.google.com/apis/soapsearch/index.html
Some ideas:
Right click on the deskbar applet and choose "Preferences". Select "Search on the web" and click "More...".
Try installing the package python-soappy (i.e. through Synaptic Package Manager)
2) The following packages have more screensavers (some may already be installed): xscreensaver-data xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-gl xscreensaver-gl-extra
I live in Moville and I just joined NYLoCo. They're on freenode in #ubuntu-us-ny and their site is: http://main.newyork-ubuntu.com. Some good meetings coming up - you all should get on the mailing list!
does Solvay count?lol contact me if you want to swap info
Hey everyone, I am from the Cicero area myself. I just recently joined the LoCo. I hope to learn a lot from this group.
I'd like to offer a 'Hello' from Rochester :)
