I installed Beryl on my laptop which is running edgy, I have all the updates, and most everything seems OK. But when I try to change my screensaver, my laptop crashes. Any help out there?

That's werid? Can you post some specs? Like ati/nvidia 32/64 bit? The default gnome screensaver or xScreensaver?

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300, ATI, 32, and Ubuntu Edgy fully updated. My computer crashes when the screensaver starts, I have turned of the screensaver, or when I try to select a different screensaver.

Turner,

I have the exact same issue. Whenever the screensaver starts up (or if I try to change it), my system crashes.

I'm running on a dell inspiron e1505. Using the intel GMA 950 video adapter. It is the gnome desktop screensavers. This didn't happen until I installed Beryl.

I changed the screen saver to blank screen and that works. My system no longer crashes nor does the cpu hit 100%. But its more of a workaround, what is the real fix????

Has there been any resolution to this??

I just thought that I would chime in and say that I have always had this problem with beryl and ---certain--- screensavers. These problems occured on two different video cards both nvidia based cards and two different distros suse and now ubuntu. When some screensavers are started I get the freeze. I can get into tty or I can putty to the console but it takes forever and from there killing beryl solves the freeze.
