For help installing apps on Ubuntu, check out http://www.cutlersoftware.com/ubuntuinstall/.

Since limewire only comes in .rpm, you'll need alien. Just search synaptic for it and it'll streamline the install for you. You can install bt through synaptic too. I prefer Ktorrent or azureus, but there are several other options in synaptic too.

I'm in Buford!

I grew up outside Buford, long before I-85 was built or any road had two lanes going in the same direction. I live in Wisconsin now though. Post some detail, like why do you want torrent etc? Are you trying to add software? What? All repositories enabled? My tries at torrent convinced me it was a cute idea that doesn't work as well as http or ftp. Stay Positive. :) Post detailed requests and you'll probably get detailed help.

Have you tried the Automatix script? It has a plethora of p2p and torrent programs. Frostwire and Azureus (i never know how to spell it) among them.

Bittorent is available in the Add/Remove application under the "Applications" menu.

NOTE: If you do not see it, go to "software sources" under the system menu. Then, put a checkmark on all of the repositories, and you will now have it available either through synaptic or Add/Remove.

frostwire is like, the linux equivalent to limewire, and supposedly doesn't have any ads.

I use aMule which can be installed via synaptic if I remember correctly. I'm in Lawrenceville, let me know if I can help out at all.

I went to run my file-getter of choice, gtk-gnutella, only to find out it's outdated. Frostwire complained about the version of Java I'm running.

So now I'm downloading Fiesty and going to upgrade and see if I can get the programs running that'a'way.

Did you remove Java 4 first before installing JRE 5? I know that Frostwire has problems if you don't.

I also read somewhere when I was trying to fix my Beryl installation (why, oh why did I update it, it wasn't broken!!!) that Beryl and Frostwire have some conflicts. I'll try to find the thread. I know that Frostwire didn't work when I tried it a few weeks ago (back when Beryl still worked :( )

[edit] Well, I couldn't find the original thread, but since it only seemed to bring attention to the problem, the thread that I did find may be of more use. It resides here.

Thanks, I didn't know that beforehand. Had to alien the RPM to get it working, but point is, it's working now. :)

I'll miss gtk-gnutella though. Too bad it's considered "ancient." Tried editing the config file like terminal says to, but it keeps defaulting back. So I'm gonna' let it alone.
