As an added disclaimer from the staff: If you decide to install Beryl, you should be aware that the software is still in its early stages, is under development and comes with the real risk of breaking your system or rendering it unusable.
Beryl is not for beginners. We realize that a lot of people see the effects and the eye candy and want to try it; we encourage and support that, and hope you enjoy it. However, be aware that it is not necessarily newbie-friendly, and your satisfaction with Beryl will be directly proportional to your expertise with Linux on the whole, and your patience for setting it up.
You should also be aware that Beryl is not an Ubuntu project, and questions about Beryl are better fielded in the [Beryl forums]("http://forum.beryl-project.org"). If you're looking for a distro that uses Beryl by default, Sabayon linux is a preferable choice to Ubuntu.
