Do you think that we should have one big release party / install-fest or should they be separate events? If they are separate then maybe we could hold off on the install-fest for a few more weeks and just have a laid back release party. Just my $.02.
Having them separate sounds like a good idea.
I thought having the two together was a bit too ambitious too. Seperating them is a good idea.
I also think it would be better to have them both separate.
I think that there should be "Powered By: Ubuntu" stuckers passed out at the Install Fest. If that is possible.

I know that we can get some stickers from system76 but do you think we can get enough for everyone? I think they send you 2.
We could tell them a Install-fest is being hosted, and they may send out a larger supply. E-mail them to find out?
LOL...I like that! I also nominate Cond to work on this.
Here are some of my thoughts on what we should do at the event.
- Do a presentation on why we should use Ubuntu (Linux). I am working on this one right now.
- Do the installs on the machines.
- Presentation on how to do common tasks.
- Let the users play with the new install.
- Presentation on how to keep it updated and general maintenance.
- Give out some documentation.
Please throw your ideas in with this. I also found a few links that may be helpful.
The more ideas that we have the better this thing will be.
It would be a good idea to include documentation about switching businesses over to Ubuntu or Linux in General, if not included already.

To that effect, I volunteer to do a presentation on how to get a basic Ubuntu Webserver running using the server CD and no GUI.
We have decided on a date/time for the Dry Run of the Install Fest. It will be at Athens Christian Church on March 31st at 16:00 (EST).
_Directions:_ _From the interstate:_ Take Exit 104 off of I-75 and turn heading out of town (toward the Hotel and Waffle House). Go about 1 mile and the church will be on the left hand side of the road.
_From Lexington:_ Or just get on Richmond Road heading out of town and keep going until you see the church on the left.
I requested 6.10 CD's from Canonical and while ago, and they said i could only get 6.06. But they went ahead and shipped me the 6.10 but to the main point is they gave me Ubuntu stickers. they say: "Ubuntu Linux for human beings" so if you get a shipment of cd's you might get free stickers with them
I think that they send the stickers in every shipment. I have order CDs about 3 times so far and got the stickers each time. I am still interested in the idea of getting some of the "Powered by Ubuntu" from system76 for the install fest.
Those stickers look neat! I'm going to send a letter asking for more for the Feisty release party, hopefully i'll get a response and tell you guys if there is going to be a stockade of them.

I emailed the company earlier today and they said that they will send us 100 stickers for the event. I am also going to see if they have brochures that we can hand out to try to send them some business.

I'm willing to talk about the Business end of using Linux. Anything from Samba to LDAP to DNS...I've done it all at one time or another.
Just to get down in hard copy what we discussed at the dry run yesterday, does everyone agree that it would be best to have the Install Fest and Release Party on the same day, April 21?

I think that it is a very good idea to do it this way but I think that we should wait until the Thursday meeting to let more of the team in on what we discussed. We can start a mailing list thread to get some discussion going on the subject before then.
On that note I think that it would be great if a large portion of the team can be in the meeting to discuss / vote on this.

I have been working on a presentation to do at the Install Fest. It is posted on the wiki at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KentuckyTeam/InstallFest. It has some holes in it that need to be filled in. Please comment on it.
What needs to be added / deleted / expanded upon?

The Install Fest was a success. We had about 26 people at one time. Most of those were team members of either the UKLUG, LPLUG or the Kentucky Team. There were around 8 people that came that were seeking help with either a fresh install, upgrade, a problem that they were having with an existing install.
It seemed that most everyone there learned something and had a good time. We were able to raffle off a book "Moving to Linux" and an iMac G3 with Edgy preinstalled.
We need to extend out thanks to the UKLUG for hosting the event and also for supplying the pizza and drinks.
It has been mentioned that we do another event like this in the next few (3 - 4) months. What are your thoughts?

I know my input is a bit light on coordination prescence from this event, but given I have more free time this go 'round I could actually help. There was also passing mention of desire to have a LAN(gaming) party at some point. Personally I think that's an awesome idea. . . I could even provide a way to install all the free/open source games I know of(perhaps a CD).
If we can get more users that wanna come, I say let's roll. I do have some suggestions: get flyers out 3-4 weeks in advance get time/date "set in stone" sooner have a schedule, each person who wants to do a presentaion gets a specific block of time let people know that when it's scheduled to be over, it's over Srwalter does the "2 command magic" and gets a connection setup for us in advance :) These are just some simple suggestions and I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on them. The installFest went great, but I feel that if we can get to marketing it a bit earlier, we can attract a better crowd, and the day of the installfest won't be so hectic if we change/tweak a few things. Also, thanks to all who were at the InstallFest, especially Etank, Srwalter, Zuph and Bkingx, you guys rocked earlier. ~Jordan Montgomery
I'd say the installfest was a smashing success. My cousin, who installed Feisty while we were there, started asking more questions later in the evening about what Ubuntu can do, and what it can run, and we ended up staying up half the night playing around with Wine, getting Guild Wars running. He said he might even switch, eventually, because his major involves a lot of work in Linux (physics).
I'm all up for a LAN gaming night. I think that'd be a load of fun, and be it open source games, or commercial games, I'm sure we could all have a great time.
I'd be game for a gaming night as well, though we'd have to think out power in advance a lot more than we did this time. I doubt we'll be able to get a classroom for an overnight gaming fest, and gaming machines eat up a lot more juice than the laptops that most people brought.
I have some previous experience with running LAN parties, so I'd be happy to organize the thing, although we'd have to find a place that would let us stay overnight and have enough power.
I also agree it was a giant success and realyl enjoyed meeting each of you!!

Hey Guys! The install-fest was a blast! Thanks to UKLUG for sponsoring and participating too. The Door Prize has been upgraded to Feisty Fawn. It went smooth as silk. As for the P2, which had not finished the upgrade at the end of the install fest, it is toast. It will not boot. I've got some problems reloading from the live CD but I'm not too worried about it since it is basically a practice PC. But if anybody remembers how to use the Expert Mode you could remind me!
I think a microphone/sound system would have been nice for the speakers. I enjoyed the presentations too - nice job guys! I'd love to hear Bjorn do a talk on midi mixers and other sound toys at a future meeting.
