3D Desktop?

Needless to say, I was giddy at the potential for such a set up. I am not interested in the touch screen functionality, but I am intrigued by the ability to scroll through multiple desktops. My questions really, revolve around requirements. Is this feature a function of the Gentoo distro, or can any Distro using GNOME, have this feature applied? Can this feature be used with a mouse, rather than a touch screen? Is it easy to setup? Does it create conflicts with general efficency and regular function? I am excited to find out :)

Well, he is using either compiz or beryl. Search the forum for either of those terms and you'll find plenty of info

Is there a difference between the applications you named (Beryl or Compiz)? Or is it merely a superficial one like using KDE instead of GNOME?

The beryl project was forked from the original compiz. I use Beryl and it looks pretty much like the video (if you want to set it up that way).

What are your system specs?

2.5GHZ Celeron (128kb L1 Cache) 768MB DDR2 RAM Intel Extreme Graphics Card 82485

I do have a Geforce FX 5200....but i'm a bit lazy about trying to install that in Linux at the moment. Does Beryl have high system requirements?

Beryl does not have particularly high system requirements. My Intel GM 945 with 128 Mb memory runs it smoothly. If you really want to try before you install it on your comp, you can always try a live cd with it installed. To name one (there are others that I'm not sure of): knoppix. But when booting you need to use a special option (knoppix desktop=beryl or something like that). Personally, to avoid twiddling too much with your xorg.conf file I would wait to install the nvidia card and then beryl.
