i always use 1650x1080 (not that big of a diff) and i have a LG L204WT. fuckin awesome monitor and i have absolutly no problem at all with reading what it says on forums, etc. and i have not changed any settings on gamma or anything else. not changed anything in the text size in FF either... prolly just your screen that is too dark... after getting used to that ress i hate anything that is lower...
No, monitor is a 19" CRT Sony Multiscan G400, it has LOTS of settings & is not too dark. I don't have a problem with the colours, I have a problem with text sitting partially on top of other text, down the right hand column.
The text problem is not uncommon, when people use very high res' & bump up the size of the fonts. It doesn't have to happen that way, but the solution requires more site work. It may be easier these days, in the past you had to make 2 or 3 sets of pages to suit the resolution. I'm years away from the small amount of web work that I did, so, it's very likely more streamlined now...
I would expect that with the gpu capabilities & the larger monitor prices these days that there must be many people using 1280 x 1024 & above resolutions consistently. I would also expect many of them to have adjusted both their desktop fonts & their browser fonts too...
