I've really had mix feelings on WoW running in Linux, it never worked for me before until I had a fresh install. I can see some speed difference but it runs otherwise perfectly.
Anyone had any major problems running WoW with Wine? are people using D3D or OpenGL?
Well this is really good work from the guys at Wine, one more reason to not use Dual Boot.
You know I think the advent of WoW on linux , ubuntu specifically, was so large in size that the games and liesure section was overflown with WoW threads. What we probably should do is take the amagalm of them all and section it out in one gigantic how to.

I only do Native Game howtos (with few exceptions), as I find the windows emulators very unstable and not reliable (I know wine is not an emulator) and would not really touch it. It's your call...
I can probably toss one together, Unless someone else would like to have a go at it?

It might benefit the community by having a WoW howto in UGA, but I doubt honestly that it will impact the number of threads that popup here or in the Gaming & Leisure section one bit.
Might I suggest posting a notice on this forums asking users not to make WoW threads?
I think the sanity of all of us depends on it.

I'm honestly so sick of the game I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I feel ya :P Here's what I had to say about WoW while drunk.
1. STOP making WoW threads, go here first http://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft if that doesn't help you find an EXISTING WoW thread for the love of god. You DO NOT need to compile it from source anymore 95% of the time. If you have an ATI problem may the deity you worship help you.
Hehehehe....WoW threads, a forum plague :popcorn: So far I can see (in the wow/cedega/crossover threads) is that if you have an ATI card you have to cross fingers that it work. If people really are upset by playing WOW through already spoken applications, they should invest in video card that doesn't spits out poor drivers.

Well, what I mean is we see everyday 3-5 WoW topics. in the game forum even though there's two stickies there which links to helping places. Personally I find it tedious that people don't read stickies as many of the problem can be solved by reading them. Granted, there you be one with an unique problem, but so far most of the problems are repeations.

Yeah I understand what you mean. Its quite a problem since people don't bother reading the stickies. Thats why I included a Link to where to find help :P. I created this thread so people can share their experience with WoW. Guess it didn't quite work.
Ah, okay. :) Just have some patience, this forum just started yesterday so it takes some time before people sees it.
Hey all,
Just recently started using Ubuntu, switched over after trying out Vista, which I thought was a pretty big disappointment. Anywho, I gave Linux a go about a year ago, and found that there were just too many things that I "couldn't live without" on Windows, World of Warcraft being one of them.
Let me just say, the Linux community has made some MAJOR strides since then. Running Beryl puts Mac OSX to shame (IMHO), and I'm playing WoW using the latest version of Wine, getting FPS upwards of 100 FPS indoors on my 8800 GTS! That's much faster than on Vista!
The help article on the Ubuntu Wiki (linked to from several forum posts all over these forums) was more than enough to help me get up and running. Like I said, I'm a pretty big newbie to the Linux scene, and I had the game up and running inside an hour.
Anywho, just wanted to say, anyone out there thinking of switching to Ubuntu or any other Linux distro -- if your WoW addiction is holding you back, you can play very well under Wine!
And a big thanks to everyone in this community -- your efforts in documentation and support, in addition to the amazing programs available for Linux and the distro itself -- have made my transition a great experience, and I highly recommend it to everyone I know!

Hey everyone,
I was just about to post a thread asking for help installing WoW, good thing I saw this one and decided to read it first.
Anyways, as for my experience with WoW in Ubuntu using Wine.....has been pretty frustrating. I got it to install by copying the 4 original install CD's, but haven't been able to actually run the game itself after it installed.
I guess I'll look for more help in the links you guys posted, thanks!

Then I was reading here about Wine and clicked the link at the beginning of the post and got a dead link. So where do I find it?

Well, I'm having major problems with WoW running in OpenGL. It freezes randomly, and sometimes it reboots my computer. I got no idea how to fix it...
