Unanswered Posts

I try to scan the unanswered posts as much as possible for a couple of reasons.

#1, No post should go unanswered, even if you are just bumping an issue that has been unanswered, if you can't answer it, at least by bumping the issue and subscribing you will hopefully get the right answer from someone else who can share this knowledge with you.

#2, New users have heard of the amazing forum response and to make their first post, or one of their firsts and have it go unanswered is a bit discouraging.

I myself sometimes forget about the "unanswered posts" button and get caught up in adding to repetitive answers in topics of "I'm thinking of switching to Ubuntu." Plenty of other people will and always have answered that question for users. We should really try to solve as many issues as we can and be as diverse as we can.

I missed the last meeting and will hopefully be at the one on the 12th, maybe we can bring up this issue, if it is an issue, at the next meeting.

It's an issue where the teams will have to work together a little, as there are certainly common areas of interest. That said, a fair few members are on multiple teams, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Yes this is a good question. At the moment the Beginners Team is the largest and most active. As you point out, there is overlap between the teams. Interacting with other teams was briefly discussed at the irc meeting.

The Unanswered team could use our help and I agree we should offer assistance if we can. Thank you for taking the time to use your "unanswered posts" button :p

I was under the impression that most of us would make use of the "Unanswered Posts" button? I use it mainly in the ABT section and occasionally in the "General Help" section.

Reason for doing is that it gives me the possibility to scan for outstanding questions that I -- hopefully -- have enough experience on to reply. I know I might be interfering with the "Unanswered Posts Team" but I was hoping that they would pick up the longer outstanding issues.

My focus is on not too long outstanding questions since I like to help out beginners as quickly as I can since they are eager to get Ubuntu up and running. Furthermore I go for unanswered questions since I assume others will have picked up the ones that already have a minimum of one reply ;)

That's exactly the point. The tasks for the teams are not mutually exclusive. Also keep an eye on https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ as you may find you are able to offer assistance there too.

I'm member of the three teams, I believe that I cover all three areas by answering questions I can. What I would like if it was possible is to promote the ubuntu spirit, if we could tempt everyone to look at unanswered posts. I think that if someone can point the person to a good Howto or thread then the quality of their answer is good-even if they can't provide direct technical help:lolflag:

lol...maybe I should make the unanswered posts button click automatically every few hours and open in a popup....maybe not! Seriously, I have tried to change it so that you can configure that particular button....but so far its given me all sorts of grief (not the specific forums, but the specific minimum number of hours unanswered)!

I would certainly not answer this if the link I am providing contains information that I do not understand. I simply do not want to take the risk that I am pointing someone in the wrong direction.

I hope you understand and agree with this standpoint.
