Don't tell anyone about this rumor that was whispered to me from many places today:)

The summery is that Dell will be having a few machines sold with Ubuntu pre-installed.

However if you want to by a system today with Ubuntu pre-installed check out the System76 team. From first hand reports that I've had about them they're a good group of people.

First of all... it's not a secret anymore.... lol Second... Ubuntu is so ridiculously easy to install, that I wouldn't PAY to have it installed. I'd just buy a computer without the OS... but maybe that's just me. Anyone else feel the same way?

To be honest, it will probably be cheaper getting a dell with ubuntu than buying the hardware and installing it yourself. The joy of bulk buying...

I think that this is important for the reason that it will be able to be had off the shelf from a major supplier. Yes, you and I can install the OS without any problems. How nice will it be for those that want to start using Linux, and Ubuntu in particular, without the intimidation factor of having to install the OS? It'll be right there for them to use after turning on the PC.

This will also be nice for the support aspect. It's coming from a company that users already know, and they have someone to call on as needed.

My biggest fear on this is that the machines that are chosen will be in the higher price range models thus blocking some potential purchases.
