The flanger, echo, phaser etc all work, except for distortion... Distortion only seems to work if i hit the strings really really hard, after which the distortion is way too loud and very harsh and crackly.. I've done google searches for presets but didn't find any. I've played with the parameters with little to no success.

Is there something better I should be using to get good fx on my guitar?

try setting ALL the gains to 0 dB (which means that everything will be passed without amplification) and then adjust the drive to get the level of distortion you want. The gain makes certain aspects of the distortion, and also the over all volume, more or less prevalent.

Once you have that established tweak the other setting to get the sound you want. Test these setting with a variety of notes and chords to see how it responds to various frequencies.

Thats what works for me, but I am using creox primarily for real-time vocal effects. It shouldn't matter though.
