Worth trading in my VAIO?

Ok, I use "trading in" as a euphamism since no one will offer me MONEY for this Vaio, but still...

I have a Sony PCG-Z1WAMP laptop. I run Feisty and it works pretty well except for the following...

1. ATI Video that won't run direct rendering in anything other than 1280x768 even though I can run up to 1400x1050 without DRI.

1. Hodgepodged install of qSynaptics that needs to be reactivated every time I reboot (which is not much admittedly!).

1. Older Pentium-M 1.6 gHz laptop.

So, maybe worth buying a Dell laptop for better graphics performance?

What do you guys think?

AMD/ATI is supposed to be working on better Linux drivers right now.

But wouldn't I already be taking advantage of that right now? My CPU is not AMD, but I am definitely running ATI drivers (radeon, specifically).

No, I mean you might have better 3D soon. As soon as ATI releases better drivers. Then your laptop will have excellent 3D.

How did you find out that ATI was working on better drivers? And what are the chances that they'd support an 2+ year old mobility Radeon?

I'm guessing that there wouldn't be too much chance, but it's hard to know unless you (or someone) can point to an article showing they will ... ?
